SOLD-A lithograph of a poster advertisement by AM Cassandre. Designed circa 1927, this print uses bold graphics and effective typography to advertise the Nord Express train service that spanned Europe.
About the Artist:
AM Cassandre (1901-1968) was born Adolphe Jean-Marie Mouron in the Ukraine. He moved to Paris as a young man to pursue art education, studying at both École des Beaux-Arts and Académie Julian. We worked for a Parisian printing house creating advertisement posters.Inspired by contemporaneous movements such as cubism and surrealism, he created a name for himself in the graphic art world. He developed several fonts that are still used today, indicating his proficiency at typography. After serving in World War II, he worked with French fashion houses doing graphic work, such as scarf designs for Hermès and designing Yves Saint Laurent’s iconic logo.
Good condition, some damage to the frame.
