Untitled serigraph on paper of Marilyn Monroe was featured in the second edition of Avante Garde Magazine, published by notorious Ralph Ginzburg. The image is by Bert Stern from their photoshoot at the Bel Air Hotel in Hollywood on June 21, 1962, better known as “The Last Sitting”. He was the last person to photograph her before her untimely death on August 4, 1962. Though Stern published the originals time over, he felt limited by the available technology at the time to convey Marilyn’s true beauty. Five years later, he used Day-Glo ink with serigraph technique to create a phantasmagoric image of her. This serigraph was printed alongside typical offset or letterset printing of the rest of the magazine. With a white mat in a gold, patterned frame.
This serigraph is one of hundreds of pieces of art that are available at our location in Grandview! Come in today and see the full collection.
